Relaunching Spears Strong for YOU! A Letter from our Founder

So much has changed. And the future is still uncertain, more now than ever before.

But one thing will never change: your overall health is critical to living a happy and courageous life.

And it needs to be attended to daily.

As we planned how to relaunch Spears Strong for post-pandemic, we kept the previous sentences at the forefront while we reflected upon our successes and failures in connecting with clients and helping them reach their goals.

Since the pandemic started, our small staff of three committed to looking at the opportunities of becoming more equipped to serve our Spears Strongers no matter what the future holds.

So we went virtual, starting with our Foundation Program. Our team leads live video movement and lifestyle sessions daily (5-20 minutes long) in our Foundation Program, with access to everything on-demand. This program gets you moving intentionally throughout your day in ways that both keep you energized and eliminate nagging pain. It’s also a lot of fun! We think of it like “adult recess,” an opportunity to get your body and mind away from always having to be ‘on.’

Unable to hold group workouts in person, we also created Virtual Group Workouts that are always new every week, giving you diversity, consistency and the convenience of doing your workout from home. We also added an On-Demand option for all Virtual Workouts so that you don’t have to do the workouts on our schedule, but you can do them when it fits into your life. You can now have confidence to do your level of workout on your terms knowing you’ll be guided and challenged by Sara or myself through a workout that will leave you feeling accomplished and loose.

The three of us have put a lot of energy not only into the programming, scheduling and on-camera time but also into reaching out to Spears Strongers like you with encouragement to try out our new on-line offerings. We initially intended to make all of our new virtual programming a focus for us to create and support a larger client base. And we needed it as the gym closings meant around 30 percent of our monthly revenue instantly disappeared.

But when we got together for a staff meeting at the end of May to discuss what reopening looks like, we took a moment to reflect upon what I mentioned at the start of this letter - what it takes to maintain good overall health. We pondered over which of our Spears Strongers have not only survived through this pandemic but are actually thriving in their goals and life. And the future of Spears Strong became clear.

Instead of putting our time and energy into reopening the same way we closed, we asked ourselves how we could use our staff’s individual unique talents and passions for health along with everything we have built into the Training Process and virtually during the pandemic to help more people like yourself actualize health and fitness success.
— Jonathan Spears, Founder

When it comes to exercising, working out, playing a sport, pursuing health goals, or simply burning calories, you have a lot of options. I think we’ve gotten to the point where there are more options for a group workout than there are coffee shops, even in the PNW. And if we add in online options like Peloton or whatever is on YouTube or social media for free, that’s a lot of options for you to sort through and a lot of competition for us. It should be easy for you to accomplish any and all of your goals then, right ... ?

But the key to health and fitness success is not access to workouts. It’s accountability, guidance and motivation, precisely what our Spears Strong Training Process (our monthly personal training package) provides. And so we decided to re-launch Spears Strong based on what works, for you and for us.

What works is commitment, consistency and communication. We’ll commit to you if you’ll commit to us. We’ll hold you accountable so you stay consistent (the only way to progress and make changes) and we’ll communicate and be there for you so no Spears Stronger is ever left behind. So you always know what to do and you always have someone in your corner, keeping you on track when it gets tough.

So what we discussed at our meeting was not, ‘how to be another group workout studio.’ We discussed why particular groups of Spears Strongers were thriving through this pandemic. And every one of them are either on the Spears Strong Training Process or in the Foundation Program (our monthly virtual program based off the Training Process).

Instead of putting our time and energy into reopening the same way we closed, we asked ourselves how we could use our staff’s individual unique talents and passions for health along with everything we have built into the Training Process and virtually during the pandemic to help more people like yourself actualize health and fitness success.

What we came up with is 40-minute Small Group Training!

We realized for you to have long-term success with your fitness and health we needed to make your experience efficient, sustainable, and supported.

While most fitness trends and routines are focused on exhaustion and intensity, we design our workouts to give you the most return on your fitness time invested. But even the most efficient well designed workout means nothing all by itself. If not done consistently and with intention all the strides you take forward are canceled out with every long term disruption in your routine.

We know from experience that having someone to guide you with easy accomplishable goals, pick you up when you’ve stumbled, push you when you’re ready, and hold you accountable daily and weekly is more valuable than any ‘perfect workout’.

To fully realize your fitness and life potential, it has to be something you keep coming back to work on over a long period of time. The only way long-term fitness is doable for anyone is if you have a community of positive like minded people to keep your workouts fun and you looking forward to your next challenge.

We are only offering our 40 minute SGT (small group training) on a monthly commitment; we will not be having drop-ins. You’ll have to commit to a weekly schedule, commit to you, commit to your crew. And we’ll commit efficient workouts, lots of motivation, communication, accountability, and community to you.

Each weekly time slot will be limited to 2 -4 people and will be filled with either your own friends or we’ll place you in a group with similar goals and fitness level as yours. You can come to every workout with confidence knowing you will have the individual attention of your trainer guaranteeing you leave feeling good and inching closer to your goals.

Not only will you have a team of Spears Strong Performance and Lifestyle Coaches supporting you, you’ll also have a close group of workout buddies to enhance your life and experience, we’re also holding monthly Spears Strong social events. Because if we’ve learned anything from this whole pandemic, we need to connect with each other. In person.

It’s the personal touch and guidance that leads your health and fitness success. And we’re excited to relaunch with more success and fun for all of our clients. Look out for more info on our 40 minute SGT and social events soon. And don’t hesitate to set up a free consultation to work with Shelby to find out what plan will give you the biggest return on your fitness, whether that’s through our virtual programs, Small Group Training or the Training Process.

A note on virtual group workouts: Once we enter phase 4, Spears Strong plans to allow in-person attendance for those workouts.
