Breathing Skills
Breathing tips and resources
Each week of your Mentorship Program you will see additional tips and resources related to the Health & Fitness skills you’re learning.
The first step to better breathing is awareness. Start to notice if you’re breathing through your mouth or your nose during your day. If you’re breathing through your mouth, try to breathe through your nose.
Test it out: Better breathing means a slower pace of breathing. Shallow, fast breathing causes anxiety and can lead to health complications and poor performance. Set your timer for one minute (or have someone else time you) Breathe normally as you usually do and count your breaths (inhale, exhale = 1 breathe).
The ideal breathing rate is 4-7 breaths but we don’t get there but just trying to slow down our breathing. We get there through consistently practicing breathing methods. Try this: Take 5 seconds to inhale through your nose and 5 seconds to exhale through your nose as much as you can while relaxing.
Wimhof breathing is an active breathed exercise we recommend to clients when they are ready. This breathing has the most benefits of all the breathing methods we do, including immune benefits and strengthening your diaphragm.
